A long weekend for those who believe the best way to discover Tuscany is from the saddle.
Set within the historic Castello del Calcione, this three-day riding adventure takes you beyond the estate and into the rolling Tuscan countryside, following trails through forests, olive groves and medieval villages.
Over three days, ride from the Scuderia through the estate's vast private landscape and into the countryside beyond, passing woodland, vineyards, ancient villages and the unmistakable rolling hills of the region.
Stop along the way for a picnic or wine tasting, explore medieval villages on foot and enjoy stretches of open countryside where the horses can truly move.
Back at Calcione, afternoons and evenings are deliberately unhurried — a swim in the pool or lake, an aperitivo in the castle and dinner around the table before doing it all again the following morning.
Meet Your Host, Selvaggia
At the heart of the estate stands a centuries-old family castle surrounded by more than 1,300 acres of woodland, rolling hills and lakes.
The castle retains the atmosphere of a true family home, with individually designed bedrooms, elegant reception rooms and peaceful gardens providing the setting for your stay.
After hours in the saddle, return for a swim, find a quiet corner for an aperitivo or gather around the table for dinner prepared by the castle chef.
It is the perfect contrast to the adventure of the day: wild Tuscany outside, the warmth of the castle waiting when you return.

THE HORSES
Horses have always been part of life at Calcione.
The estate is home predominantly to Thoroughbreds and Anglo-Arabs, horses known for their speed, stamina and endurance. Historically bred in connection with the Palio di Siena, they are very much part of the character and heritage of the estate.
Calcione also has its own gallop track, used by the Scuderia for training racehorses for the Palio.
These are forward-going horses and the weekend is therefore designed for confident intermediate and experienced riders comfortable spending several hours in the saddle.
